< Low Back & Leg Pain Conditions

The sacroiliac (SI) joint is a large joint that absorbs shock and transmits the forces of the upper body to the buttocks, hips and lower extremities.

Although the SI joint has limited motion compared to other joints in the body, dysfunction from arthritis or trauma can cause swelling and inflammation that may generate significant lower back, buttocks or leg pain. Chronic pain in the leg may mimic the pain of sciatica or a herniated disc in the lumbar spine. Steroid injections or radiofrequency ablations are often used to effectively treat SI joint pain.
