Facet Joint Injections

Facet injections may be used to diagnose the cause or location of back pain and to treat the pain, often so that patients may return to physical therapy and rehabilitation.

Facets are the small joints found at each segment of the spine that help provide stability and guide motion. A small amount of anesthetic and/or steroid medication is injected into one or more facet joints in the lumbar region to relieve pain and discomfort that may be originate in arthritis, mechanical stress or a back injury. Patients often experience short and long-term relief.
